Monolingual Examination Tasks

The written and listening comprehension examination components take place on one day for all three levels, one after the other. Prior to these examination components an attendance check is implemented, which might take 10-25 minutes, depending on the number of examinees.

In written examination components, with simultaneously distributed tasks, the examinee may structure his or her time freely within the limits of the total time allotted for the completion of individual tasks. In the written examination, dictionaries (mono- or bilingual general (!) dictionaries) may be used for the completion of the writing and reading comprehension tasks. 

SAMPLE TASKS

B1 (BASIC LEVEL)

On the basis of three foreign language texts, altogether 3000-3500 n long, the examinee completes tasks checking the understanding of the texts in the foreign language. General mono- or bilingual dictionaries may be used.

2. writing: 40 points  40 points  

On the basis of information provided in Hungarian, the examinee constructs two texts (business minutes, memo, business, blog, letter, email) in the foreign language. General mono- or bilingual dictionaries may be used.

Written examination: 2 hours.

Written examination: 80 points.

The examinee hears audio recording(s) of a total duration of 3-4 minutes twice. Before listening to the recordings, the examinee skims through the distributed task sheet, fills it in during first listening, checks his or her responses during second listening, and enters the answers on the answer sheet.

Simulated job interview. The examiner asks questions in connection with the examinee’s professional background, studies, occupation and long-term plans.

3. business role play: 20 points

Situational role-play with the examiner based on the situation on the task sheet provided.

Oral examination: 100 points.

Complex examination: 180 points.

B2 (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL)

The examinee, based on 3 authentic professional texts of 4000-4500 ns in the target language, completes tasks checking text comprehension. General, printed mono- or bilingual dictionaries may be used.

2. writing: 40 points  40 points  

The examinee constructs two texts (e.g. business letter, e-mail, report, memo, brochure, business blog, marketing material) in the target language based on prompts. The first text should be 120-140, the second 140-160 word long. General mono- or bilingual dictionaries may be used. Data, such as name, address, date do not figure in the word count.

Written examination: 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Written examination: 80 points.

C1 (ADVANCED LEVEL)

The examinee, based on three, altogether 5600-6000 n long target language texts, completes tasks checking text comprehension, recognising logical relationships, major and minor information, and hidden connotations in the texts. General, printed mono- or bilingual dictionaries may be used.

2. writing: 40 points  40 points  

The examinee, based on prompts in the foreign language, composes two texts, characteristic of the profession (letter, email, memo, application, report, business blog, marketing material, etc.) The first text should be 140-160, the second 180-200 word long. General, printed mono- or bilingual dictionaries may be used.

Written examination: 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Written examination: 80 points.

3. business role play: 20 points

Simulated business negotiation. Situational role-play with the examiner based on the situation on the task sheet provided.

Oral examination: 100 points.

Complex examination: 180 points.
